4 Star Review- The Fire Between High & Lo by Brittany C. Cherry
The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn’t look away.
We were broken together, yet somehow whole. We were wrong together, but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.
Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision–a decision that changed us forever.
There once was a boy, and I loved him.
And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.
The Fire Between High and Lo is the second book in The elements series.
Brittany does it again, her writing is just beautiful and sad. I didn’t know what to expect yet, i knew it was going to be good.
“I shrugged.
she shrugged.
I laughed.
She laughed.
I parted my lips.
She parted her lips.
I leaned in.
She leaned in.
And my life changed forever.”
Alyssa and Logan are absolutely opposites. Logan is your don’t bring home to mom kinda guy. He is DAMAGE. He normally has highs with Alyssa but there are some of his lows … some which are heartbreaking. Logan has grown up on his own. His mother has hit her lowest and Logan is right behind her. Here comes Alyssa. She’s caring, sweet, understanding, and everything Logan needs in his life.
What becomes friendship…soon turns into more. Everything these two go through made me want to cry. Alyssa and Logan find peace with each other. Both of these two are going through a lot in their own way. Logan is more reckless though, he doesn’t know how to deal with his life going the way its going. All he wants is for Alyssa to be his permanent high.
“How far into the shadows did you drive tonight, Logan?”
Just went you think things are going well… things spiral out of control and one person is left trying to get back everything that was lost.
“I could’ve been someone worthy of loving, and she would’ve allowed me to lover her, too.”
What i enjoyed about the story. first part is the getting to know each other part. I enjoyed how these two grew up. How they became friends. How they help each other when they were going through a difficult time. i loved that. Second part is dealing with everything. Mistakes, love, help, truths, and more highs than lows.
What i found a bit annoying though… sometimes i felt like Alyssa tried tooooo damn much. Sometimes Logan was such an a** to her and she would say much. I wanted her to be a bit more feisty.
Definitely recommend this story
