Book Review & Giveaway! Rule Breaker by Harper Kincaid 4.5 Stars

Titile: Rule Breaker Author: Harper Kincaid Review Rating: 4.5 Stars Reviewer: Shannel Sometimes Mama doesn’t always know best. Lauren comes from a straight-laced Southern family and there’s nothing more that mama wants than for her to settle down with the right gentlemen. She even has the perfect rules to lock in the right one: Don’t rush into sex—wait until you have a firm commitment Always leave him wanting more of you—limit how often you see him. Keep the mood light—don’t share what upsets you too soon Listen to what your family thinks of him. Don’t say I love you first. Finding herself alone on New Year’s Eve (in a biker bar no less) she decides to say “screw the rules” for the night and crossed paths with none other than bar owner and bad-boy connoisseur, Jackson Sullivan. “I drawled while placing my hand on my hip. “You’ve got bad decision written all over you.” Cue fireworks. In a whirlwind of ups and downs, we get a glimpse into one of the cutest loves stories I’ve read in a long time. What I loved so much about this story, was how easy it was to relate to these characters. I feel like this genre can get so lost behind the unrealistic character lives (you know, the ones where rich, playboy billionaires fall in love and change their ways for the mousey girl). Lauren and Jackson had a real relationship, with relatable drama (no spoilers, I promise), so when you’re reading you’re not so far out of reality that you can’t understand what they’re going through. The ultimate clincher for this book (at least for me) is that it’s so hard to find an alpha male character that you don’t hate to love. Jackson Sullivan is like the Alpha Unicorn; demanding, yet kind. Controlling, yet understanding. Protective, yet still allows her to have independence. So many times, Alpha characters can be downright a-holes and it’s hard to swoon over someone that you also want to smother with your pillow at night. “I wanted a woman with a heart and a brain and a soul. I’m a greedy son of a bitch, and I wanted my piece. I’m takin’ it and I’m not giving it back.” My only qualm with this book, is that it’s so short! It was such a sweet read, that I was hoping for a little more content. I feel like once you’ve connected with the story, Lauren and Jackson, it was over! But that may just be me being greedy. For a quick, cute read, I would definitely recommend this gem. GIVEAWAY Win a Pure Romance ‘Massage for Two’ Gift Pack valued at $100. US Only. Re-belle-ious, free-spirited Lauren Renwick has decided it’s time to trade her wings for roots. That means no more bad boys, no more foolish choices. Yet when she’s stood up on New Year’s Eve, her resolution to stick to her Mama’s Rules for Dating weakens. Especially when she spots sex-in-leather-and-tattoos, Jackson Sullivan. One look at Lauren, and Jackson is hell-bent on getting her on the back of his Harley and riding straight for his bed. Their night together is an erotic rush that has a new word popping up on his horizon—forever. Lauren tries to convince herself he’s just one last fling to get bad boys out of her system, yet she finds herself falling hard and fast for a man with a stalker ex and a meddling Irish family. Plus, he has zero chance of passing her uptight parents’ inspection. Jackson has Lauren’s back, but if she wants all of his heart, she’ll have to meet him halfway—by ditching rules that hold her prisoner, and learning to stand up for what she really wants. Along the way, I’ve worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, an art teacher, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts and follow-through to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I am tickled pink with glitter over this good piece of fortune. What else? Hmm…I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it’s slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds),and making those close to me laugh ’til they snort. I’m a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil’ town, Vienna, Virginia.
